Miranda what exactly do you have against mining? Why does it matter to you if the suggestions here go through?
Firstly: 50mill is figure used by Halada in a post that is now somewhat dated. Prices have changed since then.
In adition it refers to the mining of bistot, which as you may not know is not available to the majority of miners in 0.0, and also contains Zydrine, a mineral whose prices has fallen by almost half recently. This of course does not, as Halada states, include the time spent hauling to station for refining and hauling to empire for sale to receive the best prices either.
Secondly: EVE is indeed PvP and mining IS PvP as defined by CCP. We are all in competition with each other, everything is inter-linked here. Mineral prices vary with supply and demand, an alliance unable to import or mine sufficient minerals collapses, where exactly do you think ships come from?
Finally back to the topic:-
Cycle time display is a basic UI feature that should have been here from day one, little more need be said about it.
The Asteroid Scanner interface does need work, how much is down to CCP. A simple addition of a healthbar or ore volume left would indeed be of great help to miners.
As for cargo holds I feel your suggestions are a little over complicated. Simply changing the barges and exhumers to be able to hold 2 full cycles of ore from t2 max skill strips would do it. The hold could be changed so that mining vessels can only carry ore but who would really use a barge to haul even if it had 15k of cargo space?
As for the mining can I have to disagree. Most would still use a jet can due to ease of use, especially anchoring range restrictions. An alternative for jet can mining would have to provide equivalent ease of use and functionality or we would be further forced towards purchasing alts to aid us in mining should jet cans be removed.

Two other small points.
I mine solo, I have PvP'd on all levels, I rat when the ratting is good, I have run level 4 missions, and I manufacture. So for the love of god don't give me any more of this all miners are carebears rubbish or believe we have no idea how the rest of the game works.
I've sieged POS, I've been part of alliance blob combat, I've raided enemy alliance space both solo and in small gangs. Stop.
My other point is that an asteroid scanner improvement will be utterly useless unless it comes built into barges and exhumers due to the fact that even with an increase in mid-slots an improved tank would always be preferable to additional asteroid data.

"See if you can find something written in the last 6 months supporting your opinion that the old ruling is still valid."
Thing is the devs went pretty quiet about instas for quite some time before something was done. For all we know it's still on the to do list.
I personally don't have a problem with jetcan mining, I certainly couldn't say thieves have taken any reasonable amount from me even back in my empire days.
If it's not part of the CCP "vision" though it will go, but just like instas they will have to find a replacement for the game mechanics provided by jetcans.

So: - Reduce loot drops drastically (named drop % should remain the same...just less random T1 crap). - Keep the same or increase bounties to compensate for loss of loot (balance open to question but there somewhere). - Nerf scrap reprocessing. I know this hurts people who "compress" mins but not that big a loss there. - Nerf mining from non-mining bonused ships. Sad that the best thing that can be said of the Apocalypse today is that is makes a great mining ship. That or buff mining ships so there is a clearer distinction for bothering with them. - Give barges some way of protecting themselves from gankers to make it worth putting MSM-II on them. Covetor pops so easy its a no brainer for suicide gankers. - Nerf plexes so they can't be farmed so easily (move them into Exploration rather than having them static). - Give haulers another class of ship between Transports and Freighters. Preferrably one that can grab loot from space. Even a pimp Itty-V has issue keeping up with several Hulks.
Win!
The important part is distinction ratters provide named loot, miners provide minerals, manufacturers supply normal t1 and t2 products, and PvP'ers blow stuff up... professions should not be stepping on each others toes.
The only point you missed were the compounds dropped by drones which are yet another way to mine with guns and missiles.
...Alternatively CCP could let us take down player battleships in our hulks, rat in our covetors, and let us reprocess ore into named loot.

"The only one of these I would not agree with is Nerf scrap reprocessing. It just doesn't seem like a good idea to me - compressing saves me spending all my time mining veld - the other ores are more pretty."
Someone should have to mine it that's what veldspaar mining crystals are for, somehow I doubt CCP ever actually intended for compression to be possible.

Alas we are not worthy, the most esteemed combat pilots of the egger community can now mine with guns and missiles... such human chaff as us are fortunate to be permitted to survive at all.
WTT Mining SP for all racial BS 5.

If it's not alliance warfare it doesn't matter.
If it's drones they go selectively deaf.
If it doesn't explode or make other things explode nobody really cares.

Mission runners.... risk...
Empire mining means you can get a godly 6-7mill an hour, unless of course someone swipes the contents of your can.
So there we have a (still very expensive) t2 mining ship , months of skills, very little money, and an element of risk.
Empire mission running (bounty/LP farming) I can net 20mill an hour in raven with 600k SP in missile skills. This is more than ratting in poor quality 0.0, more than I currently get mining in 0.0. Of course in a tricked out CNR that amount likely doubles, especially if you know which missions to simply ignore. If you consider running missions in empire a risk your doing it very, very ,wrong. Go try running missions for the pirate factions in 0.0, then you'll actually have a point.
Besides of which this thread is just asking for a little love for this area of the game, hundreds of new missions have been added, most have been re-vamped (and yes rewards are slightly borked until they auto-balance), not seen anything new on mining since we got the barges/exhumers...
...oh no wait, we have the ORE capital to look forward to. Which will be pretty darn pointless to own with mining in it's current state.

I'm still waiting for them to move the thread to Stations, Starbases and Outposts to help them ignore it a little better.
Like the drone thread moved to Ships and Modules.
After all who wants to have to look at such things on a daily basis?
